One of the main reasons you don't see as much damage from insects and the elements in newer homes is because of something called OSB (oriented strand board) which is a relatively new technology. It's not exactly plywood, it's wood chips "glued" together with some pretty high temperatures and a fuckload of boron that keeps the termites and mold away. It's rather expensive in Europe since it's not made in China, what is made in China isn't real OSB due to a lack of boron in the manufacturing process and the type of formaldehyde they use.
OSB in general is pretty pricey to build a home out of. Regardless, the studs are still lumber or steel and not plywood or particle board/OSB. Thanks for reading my blog.
