Basically, god knew we would finally get to a point where we were altering reality and becoming gods ourselves to impose our will on reality. He just wanted to make sure that we were ready enough when the time came so that we weren't using it to literally destroy reality, but to persevere the judeo-Christian values (what we refer now to as "western values).
