I admit in Nick's case it's a bit harder because he is a lazy Spic as you already pointed out and literally too lazy to even do any subtle verbal or nonversbal motioning, but he still obviously means it when he says he thinks Hunter's lifestyle is more badass and more aspiring than Don Jr.
You commit more and overcompensate when you're being ironic, and you don't trifle with nuances, but Nick did all that when he said that what Hunter is doing is obviously bad BUT also so cool while genuinely laughing about this circumstance
Also, he does the "kidding kidding" thing a lot of times even when he clearly isn't kidding. It's not really a reliable information anymore but really just randomly polluting his spiel more. He's self-admittedly autistic and doesn't know how people work
