Because 2 is definitely more playable and I honestly would recommend new players who are unsure about it to start with 2 and then go back to 1 for the other character routes.
Basically you should treat it as a VN more than anything else. Read your letters and quest log and talk to people, that's pretty much how you progress, everyone you talk to will give you an idea of who to talk to next and so on. The resource management/survival shit is your secondary concern. It's really a game you play for the story while all the other mechanics exist to immerse you deeper into the story.
