Whites act alike and have similar values, and people's families have been living in the US for generations, so they've adopted the "American culture" in favor of their ancestral European culture because of that, and ultimately whites from different backgrounds tend to stick together here and get along.
Europe is probably the least genetically diverse continent, it's just the cultural differences that separate people, so people feel closer to people who are white rather than just what country they came from in the US.
