What he said was that it won't hit us now, but the way it swings past us will put it on an orbit to hit us in 2024 after 2 or 3 misses. These orbits are dependent on many factors and can't be predicted so far in advance, so every time one of them comes around we try to get to know it a bit better and adjust accordingly.
