Unfortuely that has kinda ended. Their excitement towards foreigners has been turned to hate by the CCP. They use America as the scapegoat why the economy is not growing, why they cannot expand... too bad Chinese people actually listen to propaganda still fucking bugmen....
Anyway when I left in 2017 they were starting to hate Americans. The economy was slowing down and they blamed it on US military for some reason and they started yelling at me in the streets, cabs would stop picking me up or kick me out once they realized I was American and not French or Canadian.
