At the point of abolition it wa cheaper to underpay the blacks, consider them as a lower class human being , with less right and letting them handle themselves.
Than feeding, raising and hosting them. And it would have crippled the south which depened on it.
Abrahm lincoln didn’t even care about the slaves. He would have left them there if possible.
