Instead of accepting the absolute, irrefutable fact that you misremembered it, you find it easier to believe that it simply must have happened in another universe, because from your perception, you are an infallible, supreme being who is incapable of misremembering things. That's impossible, that you're wrong. Because you believe yourself to be perfect. You believe are never wrong. The world and your perception of reality related to it must bend to your will. In your mind, your error has to be the result of a parallel universe. You believe you are incapable of simple human error. Your ego and hubris are equal parts massive and ridiculous.
