Warhammer 40k is expanding and trying to set itself up as "the next star wars", this is just an attempt to bring in new people (especially kids) and introduce them to the universe.
Star Wars is doing an excellent job of killing itself. No one likes the shitty new movies, and all the merchandise for the new movies just rots on the stores shelves.
Meanwhile, here comes 40k like a breath of fresh air, swooping in to resurrect that Sci-Fi audience, declaring, "hey guys, i'm here, and i'm better".
This is not really a big deal, it's clearly for kids, probably will never be officially canon. you guys are being worried over nothing.
