You didn't have a few social media accounts following you around everywhere you fucking went. Uploading pictures was pretty much non-existent. I didn't know a single kid who owned a digital camera back them, you would have had to scan a Polaroid and upload it. And you couldn't image search it on Google.
There were people I met on the internet in the early 90s and stayed friends with for fucking YEARS never knowing what they look like. That would be unheard of now. How could you have a relationship with someone for that long without seeing a picture of them?
But back then, it was totally normal. In fact, it would be weird if you DID see a picture of them given the limitations.
