Keep in mind that today there are so many mediocre artists who copy what they see and post online. There's a lot to wade through but there are needles in the haystack. For example, pic related is an attempt at using detailed shading in conjunction with the anime style. You can find a lot of unique and interesting art if you look beyond the basic, popular things. Just like any medium, really.
