a japanese salaryman who's pushed in front of a train by some guy he just laid off. in the moments before his death he meets god and immediately tells him to buzz off. god's response is to reincarnate him as an abandoned girl in an alternate world's definitely not germany just before ww1 and tell him that he won't get reincarnated again if he dies faithless.
fortunately the world has some implementation of magic, so the show follows our protagonist enlisting in the army as a mage at 10 and rising through the ranks in an attempt to win the war and live a comfy life as a retired veteran as soon as possible
