>>10782693I don't have any solution. We could try investing massive amounts of money into genetic eingeneering (recently the exomes of 1000 <170 IQ individuals have been genotyped giving us more insight into the genetic bases of intelligence) but it doesn't seem feasible. CRISPR is very prone to error also we are not talking about one modification per embryo but possibly thousands.
Embryo selection through IVF based on polygenic scores for IQ? Maybe but lack of sperm selection in IVF causes many health problems. It's a big tradeoff. Moreover an increase in the average IQ won't necessarly solve all of our other problems.
"Hard" eugenics? It will never be accepted. Also doesn't make sense if people don't breed.
The energy problem could be partly solved by something like thorium reactors but what about all the aspects of our society that are dependent on oil (naval trade, high yield agriculture, production of medical goods etc.)?
I believe that a collapse is inevitable. We should try to store all of our knowledge in some physical form (something like those voyager probes they sent into space) so maybe in the future we could rise up again but I doubt it. For the vast majority its existence humanity has been living in extremely harsh conditions: 50% died before 15yo, not much food, frequent wars, diseases etc. We are indeed living in a time of unprecedented material wealth but it will inevitably come to an end very soon.
