>>20123632yeah, the market got insane and priced in AGI and literal human intelligence robots and full self driving and doctors and all other kinds of shit that isn't going to happen. Processing architecture is the problem. The fundamental way chips are designed, with separate caches and memory and linear streaming processors; there's basically no macro scale architectural difference between an rtx 4090 and an Voodoo3 GPU from the 90's. It's the same old tried & true but extremely limited memory/processor hierarchy and it's wholly unsuited for AI. It's impossibly slow and energy inefficient for the task.
It kinda makes me wonder wtf the market is going to try to price in when we do have positronic brains or wetware or some shit and finally do have human or beyond intelligent computers. It won't be the shit we priced in this time. It'll be some insane, abstract nonsense like "omg ai will invent time/dimensional travel we're all going to be immortal omg ai is going to turn all matter in the galaxy into nanobots under out control omfgggg buy buy BUY BUY REDDIT BUY"
