Consequently, any Christian saying one has to forgive without the offender being contrite is in error. God demands contrition of us, or we won’t be forgiven. It would be unloving to forgive someone who commits grave sin without remorse because doing so perpetuates sin.
God wasn’t pleased with the death of Jesus, but his wrath was pacified because the debt was paid.
The question you should ask yourself is “if the suffering of Christ is the cure, how bad is the disease?”
