It was peak consumerism with goods and services still very cheap - houses, cars, college, medical etc. There was worse decadence than there is now. Everyone hated Muslims and no one gave a shit about the environment. Millennials were teenagers and you got the first real generation of gamers who never left their rooms, creating the useless timid manchildren we see today. Many of them are troons with Zelda tatoos now. Movies and tv shows were king and internet entertainment was still contained to cat videos - this was right before YT and facebook got big (even though they launched in 04). Nu-metal was everywhere with cargo shorts and chains hanging off them. Everyone drew some weird S symbol on their schoolbag or copybook. It was the era of DvDs. Casual racism, homophobia, fat shaming etc was still around to a degree but was becoming more accepted with many movies and tv shows integrating token characters. The media of this generation single handledly turned every developing man into a "nu-male". Far less brown people in both media and irl in Western countries. Some people sat it was comfy but it was the beginning of the end imo. There was something very off about that era.
