ironically i'd be more inclined to think it's part of the whole "fetish of seeing yourself as the opposite gender" meme when they aren't making an effort like this. it'd be hard to track down exactly what i'm talking about but there's this particular aestetic style people like this tend to be obsessed with called softboys that are basically slightly chubby men that look like androdynous women it's a really weird dynamic
