Pharisees and scribes were separatists, as a separate political group within the Jews. They invite Jesus by making believe good intentions of dialogue and preaching, but in reality it was a trap, they want to make him mistaken in his speeches to discredit him.
Jesus exposes them in his political and personal ambitions and augurs a future for them.
