One thing I think more people should know about with HAM radio is SOTA. Standing for Summits On The Air it's when you take lightweight equipment like picrel, hike to a summit and "activate" it. You earn points for making 4 contacts, usually through QRP (morse code). More points are awarded for harder summits. At 1000 points you're sent a plaque.
