This is the fulfillment of the prophecy of the 12 tribes, saying that two tribes (that make the house of Judah) would remain in the South, while the other 10 (that make the house of Efraim) would go North and then be dissolved and spread around the World (these were the Netsarim, aka messianic jews that later become the "christians").
Than, there's another prophecy speaking about how the houses would be reunited in the hand of the Messiah to become the Israelites, at the end of times. (Ezekiel 37:16-19).
