You can't frame it as the other worship-based religion because the only things that have an impact on your life in buddhism are your actions. You go to temples to generate good kamma and dedicate it to the gods and the dead, you don't expect gods or Buddhas to save you or make you rich. You could say Buddhas are helping you by showing you the correct path but they don't directly intervene in your life because they're beyond life and death. Ultimately your life is entirely in your hands and if by chance some deities decide to help you it's because they noticed your good actions and thought you're worth saving.
