>>12924468well the issue is that a group of players who already know each other and are in voice chat have a massive advantage over others, so if they didn't put restrictions on how many people you could play with then the team with more premades would almost always win. there's a pretty sizable number of people that think even allowing 2 people to queue together is a bit too much since if it's two high impact roles like mid and jungle they can totally choke someone out of the game relatively easily.
there is a separate queue that allows anything but groups of 4 (because being the 1 player not in the premade usually just means you'll get bullied and blamed for everything), but nobody takes it seriously at all since playing with anything but 5 people puts you at a massive disadvantage and there aren't a huge number of 5 friend groups who don't overlap in which roles they play and are around the same skill level. since nobody takes it seriously and the mode is ranked separately from solo/duo ranked matches there's not really any reason to play it
