While their motivations may not be identical both want only to be accepted, heard and have friends.
I also think there’s a necessity for attention running rampant here. Adolescents and young adults who don’t receive enough positive attention from their family or friends often act out in order to get negative attention which is better than no attention.
All of it is very fascinating but also very confusing since the mere notion of having an extended conversation to discourse on the finer points of ones negative behavior and the motivations therein is absolutely taboo.
