Giving is as "egoistic" and taking or receiving. When you give someone something, be it help or something material, and the receiver is affected by joy you will also be affected by joy as long as you see yourself as the cause of the reciever's joy. Do you really some rich people are just inherently "good" or something when they donate large amounts of money? All it is, is some other way of jerking themselves off, and in this case it's some type of virtue signalling, and the giver feels good, because he has done what people regard with joy. None of this is shameful, it is just how it is. But try to explain this to people with no head of their own on their shoulders, and they will try to "prove" you wrong by giving examples of when they gave something away selflessly (not for one second do they think that attributing themselves as selfless is just another way of virtue signalling). You can only know how you feel, you can only feel your own feels. The second you say "I" infront of your reasoning as to why you are good, giving, selfless person, then you have already admitted you do it out of some selfish cause, because "I felt like" or "I think" or whatever. It is just ego stroking.
