Yugoslavia was a bit more liberal than the soviet union, and at any rate, Slovenia isn't that poor. We're considered to be alpine jews by other people in ex-yugo countries. I just live in a pretty poor region and most people probably didn't have money for stuff like pokemon cards, or even having tv channels which aired pokemon.
