So there are multiple planes of existence, which are all overlayed/superimposed on top of one another, all co-existing at once. Everything in existence is all fine-tuned to interact with one plane of existence. However, with enough energy one is able to tune themselves to another plane, shifting them to the new one and leaving their old one. Not enough energy, and one can become stuck between the two, loosely tethered to both and can interact with both, though this tends to damage one's mind.
Now, onto magic. All magic comes from the "Magic Plane". This plane of existence is pure magic/mana/[whatever you want to call magical energy]. This energy tends to modify matter from other planes. Everything in existence is slightly tethered to this magical plane, which allows them to conjure some with enough practice. This allows people to use the magic to bend reality, also known as "spell casting".
