Before that they were known as two groups: "The Church of the East" who are Nestorians following the heresiarch Nestorius, and "The Non-Chalcedonians" which make up the rest of that group including the Copts, Armenians, Malabar Indians, Ethiopians, etc all who reject the Council of Chalcedon, known to the Church as the Fourth Ecumenical Council.
