I think that Greediness is a bad characteristic and I think that most people can agree on that. After all it is one of the seven deadly sins. In the
story 'The Monkey's Paw' by W. W. Jacobs the main character Mr. White learns this lesson the hard way. We see that many times in the story how despite
lots of warnings Mr. White gives into greed and it makes his and other's lives much worse and even makes a family memeber's life go away.
The first time the White family encountered the monkey's paw was when a family friend named Sergeant Major Morris showed it to them after coming back
India which at the time was still under British rule. After he comes inside one of the first things that is brought up is the monkey's paw which
Mr. White seems to have some previous knowledge of given that it was not brought up to the reader. Sergeant Major Morris tries to do the responsible
thing and tries to steer the conversation another way but Mrs. White overhears the conversation and inquires about it to. At this point Sergeant Major
Morris is forced to say something about it and explains that a fakir is a Hindu or Muslim holy man cursed it to teach people a lesson about tampering
with fate. While the user does get three wishes they will be to the user's sorrow and possibly other's sorrow as well if the wish involved them as
well. Despite knowing this Sergeant Major Morris tries to pawn it off but he has no success citing that not many people believe him or the ones that do
