Critical theory was created by Marxists as a way to promote deconstruction of societal norms. The idea they run with is that wherever there is something seemingly good or beautiful there must necessarily be evil, because good can only happen off the suffering of others. Calling something beautiful is bad because it means something else must be ugly in comparison, therefore beauty is inherently bad and should be disposed of. So first it depicts what's good as actually bad, for reasons. Then once you've bought into that it depicts what's bad as what's good (and that's a good thing). See: criminal behavior, sexual deviancy, and weird, dysgenic, racially ambiguous, androgenous, fetal alcohol syndrome looking mugs. You are here, watching beauty get deliberately inverted.
Interestingly, the most frequent insult attributed to demonic forces is the inversion of holy imagery. Weird how that works out.
