It's more common in hard left leaning people (which are the majority at reddit) because they want everything handed to them, and thus never use their time to master anything. When you are successful or skilled enough that people want to approach you, then you don't stoop to feeling power like this. Your need for it is already satisfied in the people who want to learn from you, or work for you.
Also, echo chambers strongly enforce people who only visit the ones echoing what they already believe in, to further believe in it: often to the point where they think their belief is absolute and anyone who is good must follow the same belief. It's essentially zealotry.
