The reason trends are and the way they've become that way is due to corporate influence and an epistemological push for individuals to embrace their identity, but not think for themselves. Corporations make money off certain trends and have done their best to gatekeep new ones from the Overton window as allowing for such an event would impact their cash flow. Society is ignorant to this and just as if it were a biodrome, so too is what our culture holds popular a manufactured zeitgiest.
