I think the Greek Heroic Age of Odysseus' time between the end of the stone age and the beginning of the iron age would be a favorite in the Mediterranean region. Also medieval North/West Europe from 400-1400. Further back would be pretty cool too, when people were eating raw meat, drinking blood and crushing skulls everywhere not using fires to cook.
