Growing up all I can think of is the fact that none of my friends could never tell me much of how their dads hung out with them. You don't need to understand everything your kid is on about nor into. But fuck, try to understand it to some level. I never had any issue with my father probably due to the fact my dad understood what it meant to be a father. He used to party and drink a lot as a kid and young adult in the military. He told me some time ago he decided to forgo nights getting plastered when I was born. He understood that being a father meant to be someone reliable. Even if you're absolutely tired after a 12 hour work day, please, find just 30 minutes of your to goof off with your fucking kid. Don't be lenient all through out life though. Understand when to be commanding and when to let things slide. Some things are not important at all to ever worry about deeply.
