Civilization is what allowed us to banish the darkness of the night, to survive the elements, to cure diseases, and to enrich our lives by experiencing it with other members of our species who can empathize with us, thus easing the existential angst that is a byproduct of our intelligence.
To see it reduced to a comedic meme is quite depressing.
