Can't see polaris from the southern hemisphere. On a flat disk you'd be able to see it. If you couldn't because of distance, it would mean all the places in the southern hemisphere would have a different set of stars in view.
And for the "finish you" move, the stars have the opposite rotation which would only happen on a globe.
