I'll get banned posting this anywhere else, so just going to post it on /bant/. Is the American dialect becoming increasingly grating to anybody else? Many speakers of American English, or the general American dialect, however that is called, sound obnoxious and offensive to my ears. Much of Youtube is unusable for me, because I get so annoyed by how the speaker sounds that I can't bear to continue listening anymore. With women, it's especially bad, but American men are sounding like women as well. I have an easier time listening to a Russian ESL with a heavy accent than I do listening to a native American English speaker.
