>>20529242I've been considering putting a company that went out of business on my resume to explain a four year gap in my work history. I took time off to take care of a family member who was in cognitive decline and needed someone reliable to be around as hired caregivers are fine for specific tasks but can't be trusted to not be abusive or neglectful when you're not around.
Recruiters have told me due to "Ban the Box", employers now assume employment gaps mean you were in prison but since it is illegal to ask in my state, there's no way to differentiate between someone who took time off for reasons other than being imprisoned.
I'd have to find a company that went out of business, didn't have its records transferred to another company, and didn't report to 'The Work Number'. Not sure how to determine that.
