I think the main argument against them becoming said characters was that it was way too on-the-nose. Cashwhale being YV was suggested because they were both smug assholes who love money, and when YV gets to Level Ultra the next portal you go into goes into YV's Gunlocker inside of his mansion instead of the next level.
