>>19031287The next morning, Colby Jefferson gets up before dawn and gets dressed in her gear to train. This behavior, in and of itself, isn't unusual; she grew up a country girl, she's used to being an early riser, and she takes her training seriously. What is unusual, however, is that instead of heading directly down to the Divine Mansion's gym, she goes out to the garage. The sun has not yet started to rise when Colby's white Lamborghini pulls out of the Divine Mansion and starts driving.
Though watching it made her anxious and fretful, and reminded her of her own moment of drunken weakness and desperation at the apartment and subsequent despicable actions, Colby had watched the video of Priscilla Divine appearing at the WWA Dojo to court Carmody many, over and over again. And when the emotional impact of the video began to wear off, she noticed other little details.
She noticed the expression of disgust on the face of Sola Fire, how she'd ripped up the contract offered to her and stormed off. But also that Sola looked unkempt, and was not wearing her usual attire. Something wasn't right there, and it worried Colby, for in many ways, she genuinely liked Sola. At times, she saw the better parts of herself in Sola; at other times, a great athlete who just needed that last piece of the puzzle to unlock her next level; at other times, the relateable everywoman fan-favorite that she was to a lot of the WWA's viewers.
But Colby didn't believe Priscilla liked Sola, not for one second. She had offered Sola that contract as an added sweetener to Carmody, to try to get Carmody to accept her offer. It was a sensible enough play, if one was operating in Priscilla's usual style. And therein was the issue.
