there was some philologist in the 19th or early 20th century who tried to expel turkish words and force artificial bulgarian words in their place. one such word was "matchbox", which is usually "kibrit" (from turkish). the bulgarian replacement he came up with was "scratch-burn-twig". needless to say he failed. which is just proof that forced memes have always been cringe.
