In a town a couple miles from me, called Ashbourne, a massive game is played over a few miles. It is essentially rugby but with a big, heavy leather football that is unsuitable for kicking. The goals are at each end of the town and depending on where you live you are either an "upper" or "downer" (uphill or downhill)
There is no rules on team size or anything and generally 1000s of people play. It nearly always ends in people in hospital and the ruck is extremely dangerous
The game starts in pic related. A famous person throws the ball in. It has been around in Ashbourne since at least 1667 and the game itself has been around since 12th century or so
