>>18784322as someone who went into extreme financial debt trying to help my dog who had a tumor in her fucking head live longer, just trust your dog. Every dog I have ever had has come to me and given me a look that simply conveyed, I am ready to go. I've ignored that look, and yes, sometimes extended their life, but usually with much more pain involved. In the case of the one with the tumor, even when the seizures subsided and she was on the up, she was never the dog she was before, and lost her soul and personality, between the damage the tumor and the meds had done to her brain. And in retrospect, I'd rather have let her go when we both understood it was happening, not just one of us.
If there is no afterlife, at least you are ending its pain. If there is, then I can't imagine a scenario where the love a dog and a man have for each other doesn't manifest in the afterworld. Just check in with your dog, if they're giving you the look (and you'll be a bit confused at first, since you've learned to recognize your dogs looks, and this won't be one you've seen before), it's ok, and it's honestly become the dog's choice.
