because the overall IQ is going down but i was thinking of a particular interaction.
we learned how to use the equivalent of 's (の/no) today and the professor put up some examples and started calling on people to translate them. one guy gets called on to translate "mary's friend" and he straight up says "mary's tomodachi"
the professor of course explains that he got the right word but still used english grammar and asks him to try again completely in japanese this time. the guy goes "oh right, my bad. mary-san's tomodachi"
the other one that really stuck out to me was someone looking at this picture and not being able to recall what the word on the side of the box is.
i'll try to get around to them tomorrow, we'll see
