I dont mind ticks so much because I can usually feel them crawling up my leg and get them off before they do any damage. And MOSQUITOES. Mother fuckers. I get a ton of them back there because it backs up to a swamp. I got myself a big cordless fan and carry it around with me out back, like a lantern holding back the darkness, but it's a breeze pushing the hordes of bloodsuckers away. Apparently bats love mosquitoes. They're their favorite snack. Wish I knew how to attract bats to my backyard.
