We think that may seem desirable after 40 - 80 years, but the OP said that your body wouldnt get sick or age for a very, very long time. I think our perception of time might just adapt to being around for so long. Imagine how long a year seemed to you at 3 or 4 years old vs how long a year seems to you at 20, or 30, or 70. Then apply that to 10,000 years, thats practically the last ice age.
I do still ultimately think most people would an hero before 10,000 but it would be entirely on your own terms, which I may do with our current projected lifespan anyway. I think it would alleviate fear of death a lot, cause you would get so much more time to think and come to terms with not existing. perhaps it would cheapen the concept of mortality a bit, but i dont think so, just force more normies to take an existential approach
