Old Romans were certainly recognizable as Nordic adjacent, if not Nordic. Also, this is after existing for over a thousand years as a contiguous nation. Rome could have been decadently destroyed from internal hemorrhaging long before the empire came along, but Caesar saved it and gave Rome another 1500 years to exist.
