Josie has the potential to actually be successful, but she refuses to let herself open up to anyone who honestly cares about her. She doesn't understand why she can't find a solution for her self hatred, and refuses to let anyone talk honestly about her problems, so she's stuck.
If anyone is the same kind of person she is, it scares her. She hates herself enough to refuse to think anyone would be similar, or care about her. So she keeps *everyone* at arms length. Her family, friends, fans, and even her boyfriends. So all she does is sit stagnant with no idea what to do, and no direction. All her relationships which should be deep and rewarding, are shallow and performative.
Imagine having a boyfriend who is fine with self harm, or a boyfriend who is a video editor who refuses to edit video for you (career sabotage), or fully acknowledges he's fine with you sleeping around. That's not a boyfriend, that's not a relationship, that's barely even friends with benefits.
