There is certainly a degree of narcissism involved. No doubt its fueled by Instagram and Facebook. I work out because it makes me feel good and I want to be healthy. But I am comfortable in my own skin, and I am not chasing a certain look or physique level.
People who are chasing certain looks or physiques fall prey to the rampant narcissism going on in our society. You also have women working out so hard that they become undateable to the vast majority of men, only men who are on roids or who work out religiously are compatible.
Gym culture, desu, has really gotten completely out of control. People workout to look good, they dont do it because its healthy or feels good.
This is becoming more and more apparent especially with all of the people taking anabolic steroids. Steroid use is becoming more and more commonplace and alot of people are "Stealth pinners". Meaning that the guy next to you in the gym benching 300 is probably on something.
