Why not love your fellow man the same way you love your pet?
I have two dogs and only recently come to realize the inherit absurdity of our relationship. I devote hours of my day to take care of my dogs. I feed them, I walk with them, I teach them, I make sure they are okay. I give them unconditional love and friendship. What can I except to receive in return from all I do for them? Nothing actually.
Surely they most be astounished by the fact that a representative of a different species does so much for them. Surely they know that they can never repay my kindness back in full. But still I do it, even though I realize this inherit absurdity.
Then why would I not extend this same kindness, this same care and this same unconditional love for my fellow man? Why would I walk past a thirsty man without asking if he needs a cup of cold water? Why would I not help him, if he needs to be helped? This small act of kindness from me would only be a net-gain for the world and community.
"..Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Matthew 22:39)
I have always harbored these ideals of society I speak of now, and these ideals are the same our Lord Christ spoke of. In highschool I was that obnoxious atheist - that guy who would interrupt the religion teacher with snide arguments against God. That guy who disavowed all Spiritual in a folly quest of the Material. The Reddit Man.
This year has lead me back to God.
Truly, I tell you. He does work in mysterious ways. Were it not for all the memes i've seen, all the songs I heard, all the discussion I read and participated in. Without it all I would still be lost. Truly, I tell you. I have never been more content than now.
Friends, treat your fellow man the same way you would treat your pet and surely the Kingdom of Heaven will be yours.
